I started playing a Cornet at the age of 5 at primary school. Then went to senior school and joined the school band. The music teacher formed the Cleveland Symphonic Band which I joined and carried on playing when I left school. At the age of 14 I joined Cargo Fleet Steel Works band and progressed to playing Eb Soprano Cornet. I then joined North Skelton Silver Band at the age of 16. When I left the band I joined the Royal Navy for a few years which then saw me join the Navy band as a pass time. When I left the Navy I went back to North Skelton Band and played with them for many years. I also helped out with other local bands such as Lingdale, Marske, Southbank and Billingham. I stopped playing at the age of 30 but have now decided to start again at the age of 62.
